Elephant Gathering Sri Lanka

Minneriya National Park
Witness a gigantic natural phenomenon! Sigiriya Jungles Hotel is one of the closest hotels near Minneriya National Park, thus visits to this massive reserve will take about 15 minutes. The park is famous for its elephant gathering which takes place around the Minneriya reservoir. During the dry season (July- September) herds of around 300 – 400 elephants can be seen here!

Kaudulla National Park
The jungle corridor linking Kaudulla and Minneriya national parks were declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 2004. Kaudulla is also one of the best places to see elephants gathering as the herds moving away from Minneriya, go to the Kaudulla tank next in search of more water and food. The park is also marked as an important bird area.

Hurulu Forest Reserve
Located close to both the Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks, the Hurulu Forest Reserve is also an important habitat for the Sri Lankan Elephant, Elephas maximus maximus. In addition to these magnificent beasts, the park is home to other endangered species such as the rusty-spotted cat, the Indian star tortoise, and the majestic Sri Lankan Leopard.
