Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa Marks 10 Years With Medical Camp
Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa will commemorate its 10th anniversary by hosting a community medical camp for residents of surrounding villages on 11 August, the resort said. The initiative reaffirms the resort’s long-standing commitment to community wellbeing and sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.
The medical camp will be held from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the resort premises. Residents will have access to a range of preventive health services during the eight-hour programme. Anniversary celebrations will continue later that evening in the presence of invited religious leaders, health officials and other dignitaries.

The camp will provide BMI assessments, full blood tests, cholesterol screening, blood pressure checks, and eye and dental examinations, the resort said. Medicines will be distributed to residents. Health awareness sessions will also be conducted, with a focus on preventive healthcare and healthier lifestyles.
The resort said the camp is intended to improve early detection of common health conditions among residents of the surrounding villages, and to encourage long-term healthy habits.
The format of the celebration reflects the resort’s priorities, said Devindre Senaratne, Founder and Chairman of Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa.
“Our greatest achievement is not measured by occupancy or awards, but by the happy guests and the relationships we have built over a decade. Seeing this positive impact is what really makes us happy,” Senaratne said.
Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa: a decade in review
Since opening in 2016, the purposefully designed 60-room resort has welcomed more than 250,000 guests. The property was designed by architect Vinod Jayasinghe, a protégé of the late Geoffrey Bawa. It is distinguished by a bridge inspired by the historic Bogoda Bridge, and by grounds that sit within the surrounding jungle environment. The architecture and landscaping were designed to complement that setting, an approach that has shaped the resort’s positioning around heritage and hospitality.
The resort provides convenient access to UNESCO World Heritage attractions, including Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura. Immersive experiences include the Audangawa Village Tour and traditional Sri Lankan village cooking demonstrations at Archchi’s. Wellness therapies and guided nature experiences are also on offer.
The anniversary follows a feature in the Daily Mirror Life magazine, which reviewed the resort’s first decade under the title “A decade of heritage and hospitality.”
Awards and certifications for Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa
Over the past decade, the resort has received several industry recognitions. These include TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence and consecutive TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards from 2020 to 2026, and the Booking.com Traveller Review Award 2026. Both programmes are based on guest reviews collected over each year. The resort also holds certifications for Safe and Secure Hospitality Operations and International Food Safety Standards (ISO 22000).
Community initiatives by Sigiriya Jungles Resort & Spa
The medical camp adds to a series of community initiatives undertaken by the resort. These include the construction of the Audangawa Village Temple, continued support for Moragaswewa Vidyalaya in Habarana, and regular shramadana campaigns. Shramadana, the voluntary donation of labour, has supported a range of local community projects. Local sourcing programmes also keep a share of the resort’s supply chain within the surrounding area. The resort said the programmes are intended to ensure that tourism revenue benefits the villages that host it.
Skills training has been a central component. More than 650 individuals have received certified training through the resort over the past decade, covering a range of hospitality skills. Many now serve in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, while others have taken up positions overseas.
Sigiriya Jungles targets Travelife certification
The resort said it remains committed to strengthening its sustainability agenda. It is currently progressing towards Travelife certification, an internationally recognised sustainability standard for the tourism industry. Certification would place the resort among a growing number of Sri Lankan properties pursuing independently audited sustainability benchmarks.
