Archchi’s - A Traditional Sri Lankan Village Dining Experience
Sigiriya Jungles, the upmarket resort set amid the ancient wonders of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, continues to redefine immersive travel with the unveiling of Archchi’s (Grandma’s) — a thoughtfully renovated and expanded dining concept that celebrates the island’s living culinary heritage. Reintroduced in October 2025, Archchi’s transforms the former Gemi Gadara (village house) into a warm, sensory-rich space designed to offer guests a Traditional Sri Lankan village dining experience unlike any other.
Created for travelers who seek deeper cultural connections, Archchi’s goes beyond dining to become an interactive journey into Sri Lanka’s time-honoured food traditions. Set in an open-air environment surrounded by nature, this charming space invites guests to slow down, get their hands involved, and rediscover the joy of cooking the way it was done generations ago.
What You Can Expect
The experience begins at the resort’s own farm, where guests personally select fresh vegetables, leafy greens, and herbs used in the day’s meal. Guided by Sigiriya Jungles’ culinary team, guests are introduced to age-old preparation techniques — peeling coconut husks by hand, scraping fresh coconut using traditional tools, and grinding fragrant spices on a stone grinder that has long symbolised Sri Lankan home kitchens. Every step is intentionally hands-on, allowing guests to understand not just how the food is made, but why these methods have endured over centuries.
As aromas build and pots simmer over open flames, guests work alongside the chefs to prepare a wholesome midday feast. The experience culminates in a traditional lunch featuring Sri Lanka’s iconic rice accompanied by five to six carefully curated curries, each showcasing distinct regional flavours and seasonal ingredients. Guests also take pride in crafting Pol Rotti (coconut flatbread) and Pol Sambol (fresh coconut relish), guided patiently by the chefs — just as a grandmother would teach at home.
The Setting
Archchi’s atmosphere plays an equally important role in bringing this Traditional Sri Lankan village dining experience to life. The thatched roof and mud walls echo Sri Lanka’s rural architecture, while live tabla music sets a soothing, rhythmic backdrop. Thoughtfully chosen details — earthenware cooking pots, wooden ladles, spice baskets, woven coconut-leaf trays, and lotus-leaf plating — complete the authentic setting, creating a feast for the senses as much as for the palate.
For tourists exploring Sigiriya, Dambulla, and the surrounding heritage sites, Archchi’s offers a meaningful pause from sightseeing — a chance to connect with local traditions in an intimate, memorable way. Whether seasoned food lovers or curious first-time visitors, guests leave not only satisfied, but enriched, carrying stories, skills, and flavours that stay with them long after their journey ends.
With Archchi’s, Sigiriya Jungles once again demonstrates its commitment to sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and experiential luxury — inviting the world to experience Sri Lanka not just as a destination, but as a way of life.
